Voluntary Action Coventry celebrates national Volunteers’ Week with community events

Coventry charity Voluntary Action Coventry (VAC) will be hosting taster sessions and a Volunteer Fair as part of their celebrations for National Volunteers’ Week: an annual celebration during the first week of June of the contribution millions of people make across the UK through volunteering.

The city-centre based volunteer centre is kicking off the celebrations with their Taster Day on 1st June 2022 by teaming up with charitable organisations in the city to offer a range of bite-sized workshops. Designed to inform anyone interested in finding out more about volunteering about what to expect, the sessions last for an hour and offer something for everyone, featuring roles from Blitz museums to befriending; children’s activity camps to craft clubs; driving to dementia buddies and more. The taster sessions can give anyone considering volunteering a peek into a few of the many options available to get involved and make a difference.

6th June 2022 will see VAC’s second community event taking place in the form of a Volunteer Fair, celebrating volunteers as everyday superheroes and offering a chance for prospective volunteers to meet a wide range of organisations and find their perfect role. The Volunteer Fair will be open from 10am-2pm and everyone is invited to drop by, chat with stall holders and get involved with the interactive window display.

“We’ve got a selfie booth with super hero props, and chalk window pens to write and draw, and we’re looking to have a lot of fun showcasing volunteers’ stories at street level during the Volunteer Fair.” says Francesca Middleton, Volunteering Officer at VAC. “Volunteering offers so much. It’s not only good for the community and supports vital services, but people choosing to volunteer experience enormous shifts in their wellbeing too - whether you want to improve your confidence, or employability prospects, or simply have fun doing something that interests you. And with community action and appetite for helping others at such a high during the COVID restrictions, we want to showcase how Coventry residents’ can continue to channel that strength and compassion in their communities.”

Voluntary Action Coventry’s events will run from their office at 27-29 Trinity Street, Coventry CV1 1FJ. Information and free tickets for the 1st June Taster Day sessions can be found at https://vol-taster-sessions-coventry.eventbrite.co.uk or by calling Voluntary Action Coventry on 024 7622 0381. The Volunteer Fair is an open event from 10am-2pm  on 6th June 2022.
