Introduction to Volunteering – free workshops

Are you curious about volunteering, but not sure where to start..?

Would you like to know more about volunteering before you decide to try it for yourself?

This two hour taster session can show you:

  • The benefits of volunteering for personal, health, wellbeing and professional reasons
  • The variety of roles available across the city to suit various interests and schedules
  • How to search for or find roles
  • How our supported volunteering projects can help
  • What to expect when you want to apply for a volunteer role

Suitable for anyone who is interested in volunteering in Coventry, or for those supporting someone who might like to try volunteering, the workshop contains small group work, discussion and information-giving. Places are limited to ten to ensure everyone receives personalised recommendations or support.

Introduction to Volunteering takes place at Voluntary Action Coventry office in a friendly, COVID-secure venue.

Integrate Coventry - volunteering workshops for asylum seekers and refugees

Integrate Coventry is a partnership led by Coventry Refugee and Migrant Centre, with Foleshill Woman’s Training, Voluntary Action Coventry, Coventry City of Culture and the Belgrade Theatre which aims to help refugees and other third country nationals rebuild their lives in safety, become fully self-sufficient and establish themselves within the wider community of Coventry.

We run Skills for Volunteering courses for refugees and others with leave to remain as well as Working with Refugees training for voluntary sector organisations.

Upcoming courses:

10th December Trip to Stratford - a chance to explore the historic town of Stratford upon Avon, the birth place of William Shakespeare, and see the antique Christmas Fair. Priority will be given to people who have completed the skills for volunteering training.
13th January: 10am to 12pm Skills for Volunteering - a six week course (open to all) for people with leave to remain to explore confidence, communication, team building, goal setting and planning as well as volunteering, as a way to develop skills, networks of friendship and a reference.
1st February: 9.30am to 12.30pm Working with Refugees - a halfday workshop which looks at busting the myths around refugees. It explores the process of seeking asylum in the UK and how voluntary organisations can positively help to encourage refugees as volunteers and service users.
