Getting involved with volunteering opportunities that are taking place across the city demonstrates that your business is a committed employer to Coventry, making a contribution to the community around you.
That’s exactly what the Bereavement Team from Coventry Building Society did recently, dedicating an afternoon to giving back to their local community and helping a local charity. The team contacted VAC via our community engagement platform (Get Involved Coventry) for help identifying an opportunity that would be a good fit for the team. VAC’s Volunteering Lead Officer, Jemma Paterson, had the perfect task for them. Through her work in supporting Coventry’s Voluntary sector, Jemma has been in regular contact with the 1st Coventry (Allesley Village) Scouts. The youth group have a regular place where they meet up, however their outside space was becoming very overgrown and needed clearing. Thanks to our brokerage platform Jemma was able to link the two organisations together through their dedicated Community team headed by their Community Coordinator, Karen White.
The team of six from the building society donned gardening gloves and spent the afternoon clearing willow branches and stumps, enabling better access around the hut. Amanda Crossington (Coventry Building Society) commented on what a great day it had been “we all thoroughly enjoyed helping out to clear some of the area for the scouts. We will hopefully be able to send some other volunteers from our team to help out soon.”
Trevor Griffiths from the Scouts said, “I wanted to say thank you on behalf of the Scout Group for arranging the volunteering day. The Coventry Building Society team lead by Maree were excellent. They got ‘stuck in’ to the task of tidying willow tree branches at the side of the Scout Hut and made great progress on a hot day.”
