Short Breaks Scoping Meeting

Is your organisation interested in delivering group based short breaks for disabled children?

What are group based short breaks?

The Council currently run group based short breaks for disabled children and young people. Short Breaks provide opportunities for disabled children and young people to relax, develop new friendships, take part in new experiences and have fun doing positive activities.

Activities are offered 5 days a week, and in school holidays. Activities include:

  • breaks with mates, martial arts and arts & crafts
  • family swimming
  • Saturday club and cooking club
  • play sessions
  • football and trampolining
  • splash play
  • horse riding, youth club and outdoor adventure

Each activity can support up to 10 children (aged between 5 and 11) and 12 children (aged between 12 and 18).

What is the eligibility criteria?

  • Aged between 5 and 18 years
  • Live in Coventry
  • Have a diagnosed disability (letter from pediatrician) and / or in receipt of Disability Living Allowance

Why do we want to meet with you?

We want to explore with the voluntary sector if there is interest and capacity in providing this service. The Council recognise that the voluntary sector have a range of expertise and resources to build on and there may be an opportunity to deliver a more innovative service.

We would therefore be grateful, if you are interested in potentially providing this service, you could joint us for an exploratory meeting on 10th November 2016.
