VAC are working in partnership with Coventry Refugee and Migrant Centre (CRMC) and FWT (Foleshill Women’s Training) to deliver a programme of activity that supports refugees to integrate within the community of Coventry.
The project is delivered in two phases. Phase one of the project will see a Floating Support Worker from CRMC or FWT supporting clients over a period of time addressing issues and concerns they experience, educating along the way to ensure they are able to deal with these issues themselves going forward. They will cover all areas of concern, which can vary from benefit maximisation to social inclusion. They will liaise with other agencies where needed to get the best outcomes for our clients.
Phase two of the project will see the client supported by a Community Participation Officer, exposing clients to opportunities to increase their community participation, such as attending social groups and volunteering. During phase two we will also look at Employment, carrying out a skills analysis, career aspirations and first hand support in activities such as CV writing and interview skills.
Our Volunteer Manager, Ruth Burdett will receive referrals from CRMC or FWT of clients that have been supported and are now seen as ready to start exploring volunteering as a route to increasing their skills and knowledge, gaining experience to use on their CV's as well as building new relationships, social connections and contributing to community based organisations in the City.
“This project is part funded by the EU Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund. Making management of migration flows more efficient across the European Union.”
