In light of challenges around rising staffing costs; cuts to public services and unrealistic contract delivery budgets, TSO's need to continue to be prudent and flexible to meet new challenges.

Blended Model

Third sector fundraising has evolved into a blended model relying on a mix of grant funding, social finance, trading, contracting and digital fundraising.

Self-generated trading

(Self-generated trading includes the delivery of services that clients pay for - such as childcare or community cafes, ticketing for events, rent of space or production and sale of goods.)

The Third Sector’s opportunity for self-generated trading activity was clearly affected by the pandemic.

However, now, post pandemic, 40 per cent of organisations still don’t earn income by delivering contracts or self-generated trading of goods or services. Is this a missed opportunity? Or is the cost-of-living squeeze reducing the ways that we can generate our own income?
