The National Performance Programme (NPP) recently reported and promoted the value of the measurement tool "Social Return on Investment" (SROI). This is a system for understanding, measuring and managing the outcomes of organisations activities. It's a way to measure and account for the value your organisation creates.

The Office of the Third Sector (OTS) is currently funding an SROI information and support programme which will be delivered by a range of organisations including the Charities Evaluation Service (CES) For more details about NPP's work, which is the National Support Service dedicated to improving performance management, please refer to the CES website who are the lead for this work stream http://www.ces-vol.org.uk/.
