Shaping, Influencing and Developing Coventry Third Sector Assembly mini-conference and VAC AGM
17th November 2009 St Mary's Guild Hall
The Coventry Third Sector Assembly (TSA) mini conference in November was attended by approximately 60 delegates from around the City. Delegates had a chance to hear from keynote speakers, question Assembly members about the vision for the Assembly as well as attend workshops and discussion forums on subjects such asĀ The recession, volunteering and strategic planning.
Feedback from the event was overwhelmingly good, providing an excellent opportunity to find out more about the potential of the Assembly as well as an opportunity to network with others from the Sector.
Summary of the Day:
Keynote speakers; Surinder Singh from Capacity Builders and Kate Housden from NAVCA, discussed the challenges that faced the Third Sector in the upcoming 12-18 months and discussed how their organisations could support the Sector through funding, advice and lobbying. They also discussed some of the questions we would need to ask ourselves as a sector.
Seminar One: The Role of the Third Sector Assembly in Coventry. Delegates got the opportunity to question panel members, including Kate from NAVCA, Martin Reeves from Coventry City Council and Coventry TSA steering group members on their vision for the TSA and how they felt it could help tackle the upcoming challenges.
Seminar Two: Thinking Ahead: David Abse from TOOSH consultancy led a workshop on the different strategic planning tools available to members.
Seminar Three: The Recession - how was it for you? Led by Maria Franchi and supported by Charlie Gibbons from Coventry CAB, discussed different tactics groups can take to recession proof themselves.
Seminar Four: Volunteers - who are they and what do they do? Facilitated by Sue Ogle, VAC with panel members from the National Association of Volunteer Managers and Volunteer Co-ordinators from Coventry. Discussion focused on why organisations involve volunteers, the roles they undertake and why people volunteer.
The mini conference rounded up with feedback from Gary Bye on the future plans of the Third Sector Assembly.
