Volunteers Week
2009 saw the 25th anniversary of volunteers week. The volunteering projects based at Voluntary Action Coventry (Volunteer Centre & vinvolved) joined forces this year and brought a week of events to the centre of Coventry. The week had three themes; reward and recognition, diversity and young people. The Reward and Recognition day was attended by volunteers from across the cit who enjoyed a variety of activities including hand and arm massage which were delivered by students from Henley College, relaxation techniques from Coventry Mind and Indian head massages. The diversity of Volunteering day saw a cross section of organisations coming together to promote their services and recruit volunteers. We also had a variety of taster events on offer for people to get involved with for 25 minutes. We ended the week with a celebration event which focussed on young peoples involvement. We had entertainment, multimedia sessions, taster events, a host of organisations and the vinvolved team were there to provide, information, advice and support to young people interested in volunteering.
The event was a great success, the event enabled Voluntary Action Coventry and both the volunteering projects to raise their profiles and reach out to a high number of people, in fact over 80 young people got involved in the week in some capacity and over 40 young people successfully gained their v thank you certificates.
We would like to say a big thank you to all organisations who took part and helped make this a really successful event and hope to see you all next year.
