Exciting new one day course for refugees to learn more about volunteering and AMIF's mythbusting workshop for voluntary organisation on working with refugees.
It is on its third tranche of workshops for refugees, enabling people to look at confidence, communication, and team work alongside learning about the voluntary sector. The workshops look particularly at the health and wellbeing benefits of being a volunteering, a way of making new friends, learning new skills and getting a reference.
So far 13 people have participated in the volunteer training,
The 2nd basic course started on Thursday 3rd October from 1.00pm to 2.30pm and will run for 6 weeks.
it was also our first run of the wonderful course Effective working with refugees, which met a positive response from 10 members from a range of voluntary organisations, including members from Coventry Resource Centre for the Blind, Papyrus, a suicide prevention charity and Inini, a charity to support refugees and asylum seekers, Carers Trust and Tools for Self Reliance, and Making Space. The aim of the workshop was to look at the myths and barriers to having refugees as volunteers, alongside some positive actions organisations can take to support refugees into voluntary roles. There was also an opportunity to explore a bit about the history of racism and discrimination in the UK.
The next one day intensive course for refugees looking at volunteering is 28 November 2019 9.30 to 3.30pm
The next workshop on working with refugees as volunteers is 19 November 2019 9.30am to 12.30am
Your Future Your Integration will continue to support refugees in becoming more integrated into the Coventry Community, through volunteering, employment and participating in community activities. We will also continue to develop flexible ways to meet the needs of the people who a referred to us.
