February 2021 Chat Central News

Hi Chat Central members, volunteers and friends!

Hooray the long, dark days of January are past and although February can also be a tough month, especially in lockdown, at least the days are getting a little lighter and the snowdrops are poking their heads up and reminding us that Spring is just around the corner.

Here at Chat Central we have our usual fun things to do on-line and our telephone befriending is still going on. Sadly, we are not able to meet up in person at all at the moment but the minute that changes we will let you know.

Good News!!!

When I took time off my degree at the end of May, I was stressed, sad as I had not seen my family in months and worried that leaving full-time education was a mistake.

Working for Voluntary Action Coventry as a Liaison Officer for Chat Central was quite the blessing. I would wake up excited to work and feeling like I had purpose again.

I spent July, August and the beginning of September commuting from London to Coventry. Whilst I was tired, it was worth it as I got to meet up with everyone at War Memorial Park and Esquires and work with many amazing colleagues, organisations, volunteers and participants.

During October and November, I had the privilege of running five workshops tackling isolation. In December when I was sad that I couldn’t spend Christmas in London with my family, I had the pleasure of celebrating Christmas with Chat Central at the Christmas party. Therefore, I was sad to be leaving such a wonderful community.

However, I am extremely happy to announce that my contract at Voluntary Action Coventry has been extended and I will be staying on as a Support Officer for Chat Central until the 31st of. We also occasionally have spontaneous activities happening that members organise and I will keep people informed of things happening. If you would like to be kept in the loop. Please let me know your contact details and look out for them on social media."

From our volunteers:

Neeta has been running a weekly chair yoga class on a voluntary basis for us for months now – it is very popular with those that attend and is suitable for all levels of ability and experience.  This is a bit more about what she does outside of volunteering for us.  We really appreciate the work she does for us'

If you haven't yet got around to taking our end of year survey – it just takes a few minutes and really helps us to improve the project, to know what we are getting right and where we could make changes and also helps with our funding – so PLEASE if you have been involved in anything Chat Central could you go to.

New Volunteers

We are always looking for new volunteers who are willing to get involved with our Chat Central activities and maybe to call up people on the phone also for a friendly chat.
