Can you help us support refugees to gain confidence and skills in a volunteering role?
A new project has started that provides vulnerable refugees the support and activities they need to integrate into the community of Coventry, and eventually into meaningful activities or employment.
There are two parts to the programme: -
The first is around basic needs such as housing and income, language skills and meeting mental health and wellbeing needs.
The second is around gaining skills and confidence, and participating in community events. As part of this Voluntary Action Coventry are running a programme of activities, including a series of workshops to support refugees into volunteering roles in the City. The aim is to help them to move toward integration into the life of the City and the community as a whole.
Voluntary Action Coventry will provide people on the programme with the support they need to help them with their volunteering placement, and will broker and provide support for the organisation providing the placement.
Refugees have a lot of skills and enthusiasm to bring to voluntary placements, including additional language skills, alongside a willingness to help and make a difference. In return you could provide the experience and skills to help someone develop their skills and the experience to get a reference.
If you would like to:
- know more about the project and whether you want to help
- Receive a visit/ presentation about the benefits of providing placements for refugees and the support you will receive, as well as the legal position
- Provide volunteer placements for vulnerable refugees or asylum seekers.
