Macmillan Cancer Support FREE Information and Networking Event
"Macmillan offers a helping hand to charities, community groups and other organisations whose client group may include people who are affected by cancer"
Marilyn Meade-Brown, Macmillan Involvement Co-ordinator for the West Midlands
One in three of us will get cancer. More than 2 million of us are currently living with it. The number of people dying from cancer is falling but the number of people diagnosed with the illness is rising. One in ten people over 65 are living with a diagnosis of cancer. How many of your service users or group members have been or are affected by cancer as patients, carers or family members? Do you have the knowledge and experience to help them to access appropriate help and support?
People who have finished treatment tell us they have difficulty returning to normal life. They struggle emotionally, experience fatigue and may need to adjust to changes treatment has made to their body. As well as having to cope with both short-term and long-term side effects of treatment, some people may experience side effects some time later. Some may live with the knowledge that their cancer cannot be cured, even though they feel healthy. Others want to get back to work but encounter difficulties returning to their old job ... whatever the situation Macmillan can help.
