Government starts to flesh out its Big Society plans
Alongside David Cameron's speech on Big Society (click here for more details http://www.cabinetoffice.gov.uk/newsroom/news_releases/2010/100719-bigsociety.aspx), there is a little bit more detail on what Big Society might mean in terms of Government actions through a Cabinet Office report. Amidst the details on abolishing quangos and revising its ICT, there is a section on Big Society with actions such as:
"Identify and agree the reform required to reduce bureaucracy and increase trust in the public commissioning process , while creating a more level playing field for the voluntary sector", to be completed by December 2010

The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) also has its structural reform plan, which includes a timetable for proposals such as elected mayors for the 12 largest cities (which would currently include Coventry), the transfer of some Regional Development Agency functions (hyperlink to article above) to Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) and the abolition of Comprehensive Area Assessments (CAAs).
