Godiva Sisters 2011

The Godiva Sisters project celebrates the lives of women regarded as heroines in their own cultural, ethnic or religious traditions, but not well known in the wider community.

Celebrate with them on Friday 9th September 2011

11-11.30am Flower wreath laying ceremony, Cathedral Ruins
11.45 Procession from Cathedral Ruins to Lower Precinct
12.30-1.30pm Lower Precinct Performance

New for this year is a wreath laying ceremony in the Cathedral Ruins as a commemoration of the Lady Godiva, and the anniversary of her death in September 1067. Community groups, businesses and schools are invited to create their own wreath (ancient or modern) to be placed
in the ruined sanctuary in commemoration of Lady Godiva. Then the beautiful, colourful Godiva Sisters procession with banners, traditional costume, music and umbrellas along with Lady Godiva and her multi faith, multi cultural sisters, school children and communities will process to the Lower Precinct for a display of music and dance to inspire us today.
