It has come to the attention of Coventry Trading Standards that once again, some elderly local residents are receiving telephone calls from mobility companies from outside the area. As before, it is to persuade people to agree to make appointments to view mobility aids, and from the initial call, it is not apparent that a sales visit is being booked. Coventry Trading Standards are also aware that some complainants are Telephone Preference Service registered, and should not receive sales calls of any description.

Please forward this information to any of your colleagues who have contact with the elderly or vulnerable, to warn them of this current issue and never to accept appointments from unsolicited phone calls.

Whilst the legislation gives a cancellation period of 7 days after date of delivery, quite often, the consumers are not aware of this, or they will offer verbal cancellation rather than written, which the company will later deny.
