Compact can be achieved within procurement processes
A short and well-written Question and Answer booklet has been developed nationally for commissioners, showing how Compact principles can still be retained (and to some extent used to reinforce) procurement regulations. Procurement is governed by strict regulations aimed at maintaining a level playing field and not giving unfair competitive advantage to any one supplier over another. This booklet shows how this can be effectively reconciled with Compact principles, including the recognition of broader public, social and environmental benefits into assessment criteria. These sort of issues were considered in depth in Coventry in 2007/08, leading to the development of the Coventry Compact code on procurement and contracting, and both documents are in harmony with each other.
