Commission publishes guide for trustees with a learning disability

The charity commission has published a guide for trustees of charities who have learning disabilities to assist them in understanding their role.

This guide called ‘Being a trustee' has been produced in Easy Read format by the commission in partnership with Mencap.

The Easy read guide covers many of the key aspects of the Commission's existing CC3 ‘Essential Trustee' guidance. The Easy Read format is increasingly used by organisations to support and include people with learning disabilities.

It is important that anyone appointed as a trustee is fully aware of his or her responsibilities and liabilities: this guide, whilst easier to read, should not be regarded as a standalone document to ensure that learning disabled trustees understand their duties.   The commission's guidance CC24 ‘Users on Board: Beneficiaries who become trustees' is a useful source of guidance in outlining requirements in this respect.
