LINk meetings review and plan

LINk held two meetings on 26th and 30th June to present findings from LINk's work to date and gather ideas for what LINk should look at next to start off the work planning process.

Largest Community Information Fair a huge success

The Community Information Fair was organised by Voluntary Action Coventry as part of the 2010 Positive Images Multicultural Festival. The event took place on Friday 18th June 2010 with 35 voluntary and community organisations taking part. This years' event was the largest on record with 50% extra stalls available to voluntary and community groups.

Imminent Deadline Reminder for the Flexibility and Innovation Fund

The main purpose of this Fund is to promote and support innovative projects that have the potential to yield significant improvements in learning and skills sector practice or performance.

Funding to Develop Cancer Self Help Groups (UK)

Through the Helping You Help Others programme, Macmillan, the national charity supporting people living with cancer, is inviting new cancer self help and support groups across the UK to apply for grants of up to £500 to help with their initial development and promotion of service such as:

  • Promotional costs
  • Printing (leaflets, stationary, newsletters etc.)
  • Postage

Free goods available to community groups

Giving World Online (GWO) is a scheme set up to help community groups and charities access free surplus goods from businesses and organisations whilst at the same time helping reduce the amount of goods sent to landfill.

Coventry Half Marathon 23rd May 2010

This was a huge success with 262 volunteers taking part on the day. It was a real scorcher with Voluntary Action and the Vinvolved team working together with volunteers on the day opening in excess of 20,000 water bottles. (The blisters are only just starting to fade!).

1881 Ran in the Coventry Half Marathon and 478 Ran in The Mercia Mile!

National Volunteering Week – w/c 31st May 2010

Voluntary Action Coventry's Information Centre supported National Volunteering Week by hosting a V-Fair at Jumping Jaks on Wednesday 2nd June from 12.00pm-4.00pm and a coffee morning at our Information Centre on Saturday 5th June.

New Support Resource for People Managing Volunteers

Volunteering England's new Volunteer Management Portal, launched this June, acts as a gateway to the world of volunteer management with links to over a thousand resources across England.

This means that, for the first time, information on support, training and development opportunities for people managing volunteers is available to view in one single place.

ISA registration halted

The ISA-registration stage of the Vetting and Barring Scheme for people working and volunteering with children and vulnerable adults in England, Wales and Northern Ireland has been halted.

‘Governance Pages’: Useful website resource on all Governance essentials for anyway concerned with good Governance

Governance Pages is a website (Big Lottery funded) that aims to provide useful information on governance and management committees for community groups and small voluntary organisations.

It has three key sections:
1. Quick guides (such as joining a committee)
2. Sample documents (examples include role descriptions, conflict of interest, subcommittee remits...)
