Festive Favours - “Give the Gift of Time”
December is the season of goodwill and a time when people are often more receptive to helping others. Last year a new trend started - people donated money to loved ones favourite charities rather than buying gifts. This year, with the credit crunch and youth unemployment at record levels, young people may find it increasingly difficult to pay for gifts or donate money again.
ESF Community Grants has been extended
The European Social Fund (ESF) is a European Union scheme which aims to extend employment opportunities to everyone.
ESF Community Grants has been set up specifically for the voluntary and community sector to deliver basic employment skills and projects to the most hardest to reach in communities.

Planning meeting for international celebration of volunteering
Many of you may recall 2001 as the International Year of Volunteers. For those of you who are less familiar with it, it was a led by United Nations Volunteers (UNV), and set out to recognise and promote the work of volunteers throughout the 186 counties that took part.
New grants aim to get more disabled people volunteering
Grants helping organisations to enable more disabled people to volunteer have been announced.
Organisations can apply for grants between £250 and £5,000, which can be used to help overcome barriers that stop disabled people volunteering, such as specific equipment, a lack of suitable access and understanding of disability issues.
Volunteering England to hold Volunteer Rights Inquiry
Volunteering England is to hold an inquiry to examine the issues and potential solutions around the subject of volunteer rights.
The Volunteer Rights Inquiry will meet three times in central London between November and April 2010 and a report will be launched in spring 2010.
Social Researcher Opportunities
The National Centre for Social Research (NatCen) and IVR are looking for people to work with them as Peer Researchers to find out how the organisation v is helping young people (aged 16 - 25) across England become volunteers. They will interview young volunteers and staff in the places where young people volunteer, to find out what they think.
